At Elkanah House we believe that our children are citizens of the world and will need to function globally in their futures. We want them to have exposure to thinking, cultures and prospects for growth beyond South African borders.  As such, we create regular opportunities for them to travel abroad and engage virtually in the international realm.  Some of the experiences that we offer include:

sport tours

Every second year students in various sport teams are offered the opportunity to travel on an international tour to play against players from other countries.  They combine this exciting competitive challenge with educational travel that enables them to learn more deeply about the places they are visiting.  Apart from overseas tours, we offer students opportunities to travel locally and join in Festivals in and around South Africa.

Recent and Upcoming overseas tours include:
2016:  rugby and girls hockey team travelled to Italy and France, where they experienced the sport and culture from various regions e.g. Rome, Florence, Venice, Pauda, Pisa and Paris;
2018:  our next tour is planned for our boys and girls hockey and soccer teams who will be travelling to Netherlands, Germany and Belgium and will have the opportunity to experience many sites and cultures in Berlin, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Dusseldorf and Antwerp.

asian maths competitions

At Elkanah House, we are committed to developing the mathematical talent in South Africa and facilitate the Western Cape’s entries for the prestigious Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Competition and the International Mathematics Competition every year. This event offers some budding Maths-talent to travel and compete in Asia against the best mathematicians.

other educational and fun opportunities

We collaborate with other non-profit organisations that arrange tours to New York and Boston where students are immersed in a cultural experience and a rite of passage that transforms their perspectives of the world.  They visit Harvard University and many tourist sites to enrich their knowledge, while developing their emotional bonds with local and international students.  Our regular skiing trips to Italy and Austria also have provided amazing opportunities for our more adventurous students to try a new sport while learning about new countries, and visiting interesting sites on their journeys.

what our students have to say

  • I am able to be myself, balancing my academics with my interest in drama.  Elkanah House is like a family who truly care for each other and the environment.
