HS INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGY

We adopt a progressive approach to developing IT competencies in our students in an age appropriate way. Our goal is to produce competent, responsible digital citizens who are able to use technology as an advantage to contribute sustainably in our world. We integrate innovative technology skills in our lessons from Grade R to Grade 12. Students work on their own iPads from Grade 4 and are required to work with MacBooks from Grade 9 onwards.

Students are also taught Computational Thinking and coding in the GET phase. In the FET phase can choose Information Technology as one of their elective subjects. Owing to the extensive IT enrichment opportunities offered to students, they consistently achieve well above the IEB average for their IT Programming final marks.

The use of virtual reality (VR) headsets, specifically in HSS, leads to innovative teaching opportunities and pupils can go on virtual ‘Google Expeditions’. This type of methodology assists students to understand content, stimulates sensory learning, and promotes student engagement.

The app allows teachers to "take" the students virtually anywhere in the world . Students can swim amongst coral reefs, stare into the eye of a Category 5 hurricane and even visit the Holocaust Museum – without incurring any excursion costs! Expeditions are therefore collections of linked virtual reality content and supporting materials that can be used alongside the existing curricula.

In addition to Google Expeditions, teachers of any subject can also make use of the VR headsets with any virtual reality or 360° YouTube videos in their lessons.
